Promoting, collaborating, recruiting, educating…working committees are the lifeblood of the St. Louis Regional Chapter. Vital to our mission and our success in transforming the region’s built environment to a brighter shade of green. Advocacy

Chair, Nancy Rodney, Rosemann & Associates
Aim:Promote the adoption of LEED certification by actively advocating the benefits of sustainable buildings to industry groups, key individuals and the public at large. Our projects are focused on public presentations, educational events, promoting existing LEED projects and targeting advocacy via the 4 subcommittees – Homes, Government, K-12 schools and Higher Education.

Advocacy Committee activities include overseeing the Chapter Speakers Bureau, building alliances with other like-minded organizations, measuring progress of the Chapter and green building in the St. Louis Region, and representing the Chapter at community events and trade shows. Green Homes Advocacy Subcommittee

Chair, Jay Swoboda, EcoUrban Construction Company
Purpose: Encourage, educate and advance movement on green homes.

Green Homes Advocacy Subcommittee activities include Green Homes Lunch and Learn sessions and organizing the Green Homes Tour  in partnership with the Missouri Botanical Garden’s EarthWays Center and the  Home Builders Association.
Meets: 3rd Wednesday, 11:30 am-1 pm at EarthWays Center

Green Schools (K-12) Advocacy Subcommittee

Chair, Erik Lueders, Parkway School District
Aim:
Provide resources to help schools attain LEED certification and pursue sustainable initiatives. Advocate for green schools in our region’s political and public discourse. Partner with other organizations to produce educational events about green schools in the St. Louis region 

Green Schools Advocacy Subcommittee tasks include outreach to school districts, providing Green Schools presentations, coordinating Green Schools 101 and 201 events, and developing curriculum.
Meets: 4th Wednesday, 11:00 am-12:30 pm at the Garden Room located on the first floor of the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Ridgeway Center

Government Advocacy Subcommittee

Co-Chairs, Richard Schuessler, Huntleigh & McGahee
Purpose: Encourage, educate, and provide tools to local and state governments to adopt green building and community development principles and practices.

The Government Advocacy Subcommittee advocates for quality green building legislation at the state and local levels, participates in broad sustainability efforts in St. Louis Region, and is creating a municipal ambassador program.
Meets: 2nd Wednesday, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at  EarthWays Center.

Higher Education Advocacy Subcommittee

Chair, Tony Ruebsam, S.M. Wilson
Aim: Promote the adoption of LEED certified buildings and renovations at area colleges and universities.  The sub-committee advocates through education, fostering dialog between area institutions, and strategic contact to accelerate implementation of green planning and building design within the wider context of campus sustainability to promote healthy, productive and engaging places to live, learn and teach.

The Higher Education Advocacy Subcommittee assists in the organization of Higher Education Sustainability Consortium and Campus Sustainability Day, and promotes the adoption of LEED certification by area campuses for all new construction and substantial renovations.

Emerging Professionals

Cristina Spicer, Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C.
Purpose: A network of young professionals promoting the integration of future leaders into the green building movement.

Emerging Professionals serve as a bridge between USGBC-STL, AIA-St. Louis and local colleges and universities to involve students and young professionals in the Chapter and the green building movement. Learn more or join their Google group.

Finance

Chair, Marty Hart
Aim:
Develop multiple revenue sources for the chapter. Obtain sponsorships for the chapter. Create fundraisers for the chapter. Establish and create annual budgets. Create financial statements for the chapter and establish financial reporting standards for the chapter. Oversee audits of the chapter. Establish scholarship fund for students to attend higher education and establish scholarship fund for public to attend LEED workshops.

The Finance Committee works with Executive Director and Board of Directors to establish an annual operating budget, assist committees in setting annual budgets, monitor Chapter expenditures, and create annual financial statements. The committee oversees third-party audits and internal controls. Committee activities also include planning and implementing fundraising initiatives, including sponsorships and fundraising events.

Marketing

Chair, Jan Niehaus, Communication By Design
Aim:
Disseminate information about green building events, resources, and issues to Chapter membership and the St. Louis regional community.  Mange public relations, coordinate marketing, and create and maintain the Chapter website, marketing materials, and exhibit booth.

Marketing Committee tasks include handling public relations and marketing, development and maintenance of the Chapter website, creation of Chapter marketing materials, trade show and community event booth development, and tracking current green building resources and issues.

Membership

Chair, Sara Seagrist, William Tao & Associates
Aim:
Increase and diversify Chapter membership, retain current membership and engage new members in the Chapter.

Membership Committee activities include bi-annual New Member Welcome Events, creation and implementation of membership surveys, scholarship program development, promotion of National and Chapter membership, and development and implementation of member recruitment and retention strategies.
Meets: 1st Monday, noon – 1:30 pm at William Tao & Associates

Programs

Chair, James Roseberry, Trivers Associates
Aim: Produce an annual calendar of educational and training events that meet the needs of the Chapter. Support and partner with other organizations to produce additional educational efforts in the community. Use Programs as an outreach to other organizations.

The Programs Committee is responsible for establishing the yearly program schedule including monthly programs, programs with affiliated organizations, and tours of green buildings. Committee activities also include cultivating the USGBC Education Provider Program, providing continuing education for LEED Professionals and working to integrate in-depth workshops into the yearly program schedule.
Meets: 1st Tuesday, 5:30-7:00 pm at EarthWays Center
